Stephen Carl Weichert 1947-2013 “Let your anger slowly slip away/Tell that cold imposter that he’s had his day/For right in the middle, right in the middle of your broken heart…there is peace.” ~ S. Weichert Austin singer-songwriter
Steve Weichert died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, peacefully and surrounded by his family and friends. He was 65. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8 at the University United Methodist Church in Austin. Steve was born Christmas Day in Tulsa, Okla. Early on, music was a calling and he was also blessed with many other talents. A gifted athlete, he was a finalist in the 1966 State High School Wrestling Championship. President of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta at the University of Oklahoma, he graduated in 1969 with a degree in journalism. In the years following he toured with the first of his many bands and soon moved to Austin. There he met and married the love of his life, Andrea Turner. Steve released a number of albums including his latest, As Always in Love , which features his soulful voice and guitar playing. One friend described his style as, “poetry set to music.” Multi-talented, Steve was a master carpenter who loved beauty and had a refined sense of design. His clients invariably became lifelong friends. Steve honed each of his gifts in constant pursuit of excellence and was a true artist. A massage therapist and believer in a holistic approach to medicine, he put his faith in the power of nature to heal and transform. Steve and Andrea shared a vision of living in the country. They took great care in building their home, balancing elements of color, light and wood into perfect harmony. There they created and drew deeply from the natural world, enjoying gardening, cooking and a life rich with good friends and music. We will miss your gentle soul, your unique sense of humor and your laughter. We will miss seeing the strength and beauty of you and Andrea dancing and as partners in everything. You loved us so deeply and so generously and as Andrea said, you are everywhere and in every thing. “Your light shines so brightly in everyone that knew you. Rest now, dear heart.” Steve is survived by his wife, Andrea, brothers Glenn and David Jr. and their wives, his niece and nephew, family and friends. His parents David and Weenonah preceded him in death. More information about Steve and his music www.steveweichert.com.
